王叔晖

王叔晖（1912年至1985年）原籍浙江绍兴，生于天津，15岁加入中国画学研究会，先后就学于吴镜汀、吴克宇，学习人物画、花鸟画。受仇英、陈老莲、改琦影响至深，所创作的人物形象，概括、含蓄中略加夸张，线纹描绘劲健有力，落墨洁净，设色清雅。她作画“学古而不泥古”，用她自己的话说是“绕开道，走自己的路。”
她在解放后创作了一系列连环画，如《孔雀东南飞》（1954年）、《木兰从军》（1956年）、《西厢记》（1957年）、《杨门女将》（1980年）等。
《孔雀东南飞》，邵甄、吴廷王官编，1954年由人民美术出版社初版，到1981年9月第2版第10次印刷时，已累计达140万册，该书60开，68面。
《梁山伯与祝英台》，司徒凤韦根据同名越剧剧本改编，人民美术出版社1954年初版，60开，118面，到1981年第2版第2次印刷时已达152万册。
《西厢记》，根据王实甫同名杂剧改编，人民美术出版社1957年初版，24开，128面，到1982年第2版第4次印刷时已累计达百余万册。在初版后不久，1957年7月，外文出版社即印行了一些外文版，法文版便是其中之一，32开，88面。初版、再版与外文版在封面及页码上多有不同，以封面为例，再版似比外文版好，如莺莺的裙裾后摆，富有动感，更符合她进门时的情形，因之更加传神。
《杨门女将》，根据同名京剧改编，人民美术出版社1978年7月初版，48开，94面，印数105万册等。
从这些连环画可以看出，王叔晖的创作以古代妇女形象题材为多见。她们或是御侮保国、不让须眉的巾帼英雄；或是追求美好爱情，争取婚姻自主的斗士；她们或挂帅弯弓，英姿飒爽；或宝钿花钗，娉婷婀娜，显示出不同人物性格的不同外貌与神韵。
但是，如果认为王叔晖的创作题材仅限于“仕女”，那就错了。1954年河北石家庄美术出版社出版了她的《福松老汉》，该书42开，全书53面，收入了两部作品，其一为《福松老汉》，28面；其二为《向老福学习》，25面，两作品均为羡智改编。至于源于何处，不得而知。从内容上看，所刻画的是一位热爱集体的朴实老农的形象，也是王叔晖创作不多的现实题材的连环画之一。
王叔晖创作的连环画的收藏价值是不言而喻的。在第一届（1949年至1963年）全国连环画评比中，《西厢记》荣获一等奖，正如著名连环画画家孟庆江说：“《西厢记》连环画和条屏年画，誉满国内外，受到广大读者的高度赞赏，成为我国美术史上划时代之作，这是对工笔重彩画的复兴作出的贡献，也是对连环画艺术的提高、发展作出的贡献”。所以，当人们谈及王叔晖的连环画时，言必称《西厢记》。
