金城

金城（1878－1926），又名金绍城，字巩伯，一字拱北，号北楼，一号藕湖，浙江湖州人,是北派著名畫社“湖社”的創始人，兼任古物陳列所的所長。。曾留学英国。自修之余，自学绘画。光绪末年起，在上海、北京等地任职，宣统时曾被派赴美国考察监狱，并留心海外美术。辛亥革命后，任职内务部、众议院、国务院等。工花卉、人物，尤精于山水，所作山水笔墨清秀，严谨有致。传世作品很多，多为摹古之作，少又新意。
　　1926年，金城的去世使得研究会分成了两个组织：一个是以金城的儿子金开藩为首的湖社，另一个是以周肇祥为首的中国画学研究会。两个画会各出版一个刊物：《湖社月刊》和《艺林月刊》。中国画学研究会成立后，就开始培养青年，1949年以后尚健在的一批老国画家，多是在中国画学研究会学画并参加画会活动的。如刘子久、王雪涛、刘凌沧、赵梦朱、徐燕荪、吴镜汀、马晋、陈少梅、惠孝同、陈缘督、于非闇、黄均、王叔晖等。
